Why study the rural borrowers of Calpia

This note describes the methods used in a survey of rural clients of Financiera Calpia in El Salvador. It lists reasons to do research on the rural borrowers of Calpia tells why the survey attempts to answer the questions it poses, and presents the data collected to address these questions. It also lists the strong points of the methods used in this survey and presents how the sample of rural borrowers of Calpia as drawn. A companion note illustrates some of the issues raised by using the information available. Concludes that a unique data set is being constructed in El Salvador with a higher value as a public good.
