What does the future hold for microfinance?
This presentation explores the present trends in microfinance and attempts to predict the future directions for the sector. It compares the scenario in 2001 to a possible scenario in 2025.
The presentation analyzes the various characteristics of microfinance in 2001 from the perspective of:
- Credit,
- Savings,
- Microfinance institutions.
It generates a likely scenario for the year 2025, and predicts:
- That finance shall no longer be a constraint with improved access to capital markets, mobilized public savings and more commercial funds from investors;
- The change in the profiles of the major players in the sector;
- The future of other microlenders (such as credit unions, village banks, moneylenders, etc.);
- The risks facing the microfinance sector;
- The changes in the profiles of the clients;
- The role of the Government.
Finally, the document presents the vision for microfinance in the words of Michael Chu.
