Tips to donors on supporting microinsurance

This brief addresses how donors can effectively support microinsurance. The brief states that donors should have:

• Strategic clarity on what microinsurance can achieve;
• Access to staff with appropriate technical skills;
• Knowledge of when and how to use the appropriate instrument;
• Accountability for results;
• Good knowledge management.

The brief also states that to expand poor people’s access to insurance services, donors should work at the micro, meso and macro levels, supporting retail microinsurance providers, market infrastructure and public goods and promoting a supportive policy environment.
